Brisbane Cricket Trip - Australia v Sri Lanka - First Test

November 11th, 2007 Posted in trips-events, friends, photos, general | No Comments »

DSC01249 [74].JPGIt’s cricket season again and it was the first test of the Australia summer so we ventured to Queensland staying at the rather average but conveniently located Toowong Villas in Brisbane. Seven of us went, Angus Knapp, James Harpham, Paul Langtry, Andrew Gardoll, Dan Silver & Ian Frankish.

We were at the GABBA watching the first test, Australia vs. Sri Lanka The stadium was not full which was great because we could sit practically anywhere we wanted and avoid the sun.

We visited ‘fine’ establishments during the trip such as:

IMG_6111.JPGThe Weagles went into their 5th straight Grand Final this weekend with them already being Premiers of the main competition. They played the Ryde District Panthers SC in the All Age Division 5 at Meadowbank 2.

With some late goals they came through to win 3-1. Many visitors were there including Ben Liu (currently in NY) and Rocko up from Canberra for the occassion.

A huge win after a fantastic season playing some great football. The day was followed by an even bigger celebration at the West Ryde Hotel which will be covered in another post.

Falcon Yachts - Sydney Boat Show

August 8th, 2007 Posted in trips-events, photos, general | 1 Comment »

View to the CityI spent the last week at the Sydney Boat show with Alto’s boat company Falcon Yachts.

We had glorious weather for the majority of the week due to the media coverage we received we were a very popular boat to come and inspect.

The boat starts at $8m for 86′. It’s fuel tanks are 8500 litres of diesel and cost about $10,000 to fill. It burns 400 lt/hr at about 25 knots. So to get to the Gold Coast it takes about two days and will cost you about $20,000 just in fuel. This is the smallest boat in the range. The 115′ boat (of which we had several interested parties) cost about $15m.

In the pictures you will see Lesley Teager, Matthew Barry, Vaughan Blackman and Colin Whybro. A top bunch of people to be working with and just a laugh a minute.

Poker at the Prentice Penthouse in Manly

August 5th, 2007 Posted in friends, photos, general | No Comments »

Last night we trecked out to Manly for BBQ dinner at the Prentice’s Penthouse with views to the city. It was a great night - all until Franko had a problem with the way the girls were dealing the cards. Ouch - shouldn’t have touched that one.

Rat won again. His reign has to come to an end soon. It just has to.

Weagles in July 2007

July 14th, 2007 Posted in friends, photos, general | No Comments »

Well I finally manged to go and watch the mighty West Ryde Eagles (Weagles) this year. I have received many emails from the overseas contingent of old Weagles players complaining there had been no photos this year. So I have uploaded two galleries from the past two weekends - this should keep all happy.

Special mention should be made that the team as of last weekend confirmed their position on the ladder and locked in the Premiership for the 5th Season in a row. Congratulations to all those involved. (Even the club committee that I just happen to sit on!!)

Sydney University Women’s Football Club

July 1st, 2007 Posted in trips-events, photos, general | No Comments »

IMG_5177.jpg Today after a quick visit to Epping Hotel for lunch with the Weagles I went with Paul Langtry to see his girlfriend (Lucy) play in the AA-1 side for Sydney University Women’s Football Club at West Epping Oval vs Epping YMCA. I had the camera with me and took some nice shots of the girls. Not quite the standard of the Men’s AA-1, but still everyone was having a great time.

The light was poor by 4pm so I didn’t stay for the 2nd half. Let’s hope they came from behind to win. (Although this would be unlikely based on previous results.

Langers just also happens to coach the side as well. He mopes around the field like a good coach should! OYL.

Sydney Swans v Collingwood & The Russian Club

June 23rd, 2007 Posted in trips-events, friends, photos, general | No Comments »

DSC00896.jpg This evening it was the big Sydney Swans versus Collingwood Magpies at Telstra Stadium. We were privledged to have Adrian KC Lee out from Boston - MA, to come to the game with us. We started at the Russian Club Strathfield, then had dinner at the “Half Empty Bowl” (local Vietnamese cuisine), took the train to the game, saw the Swans lose terribly and came back to the Russian Club. Paul Langtry and Martin Rocks were both so disgusted with the Sydney Swans they left the stadium early. The rest of us stayed like loyal fans should.

Old Ignatian’s Football Club

May 27th, 2007 Posted in friends, photos, general | No Comments »

IMG_4872.jpgYesterday I decided to go visit my cousin Tom Manion play in the newly formed Old Ignatian’s Football Club at Tuckwell Park, Norty Ryde Of course I took the camera and Tom was stoked because he’d have even more pictures of himself.

They played Glenhaven Sports Club and due to a late goal by Glenhaven, OIFC lost 1-0. I took some great shots, which came up very well. Not as many shots from the last quarter of the game due to the lack of light at 5pm in Winter!

Yellow Fever

May 21st, 2007 Posted in video, MerlinMiller, general | 1 Comment »

First of all the title of this trip is not what you think and no I won’t explain it. Hopefully you’ll understand what it means after getting hints from James Harpham and Angus Knapp through the trip.

This trip takes us skiing to Niseko, Japan. As you’ll see we spent 3 days in Tokyo staying at the Hilton only to arrive in the ski resort to stay in a dog box (Lodge Koropokkuru) in which Grahame de Carvalho takes us on a nice tour, albeit in the smelly room. Without a doubt the deepest powder we have all consistently skied in anywhere in the world. The locals were fantastic, the food was beautiful and most of all the village was untouched to the western world.

Have you got the fever?
